Well, I'm back. XP System partition was formatted, XP was reinstalled from scratch and I've installed all of the patches. Next job is to reinstall and reconfigure all of my patches, and try to remember all of the configuration I did over the last month to make XP usable...

taxlady informed me that sometime in the night the uber-saline solution finally did the trick and we now have a kitchen sink again. Yaaaay. Sink needs rinsing and _sps_ recommends that I use some draino to help scrub away any potential nucleation areas. Probably a good idea.
In other news this machine is still bare of usefull software and there are many configuration options I have to rediscover, so my online presense is still going to be minimal for the next day or so.
