Sweaty and Exhausted.
May. 7th, 2004 09:53 pmAnd not from doing anything fun either. After I had been awake for a few hours my back decided to stop grumbling and settle down, without me having to drug myself either. So, to teach it a lesson I spent the rest of the day doing manly fix-it maintenance actions around the house. Most of these were high-effort things that don't show much. I had to take all of the books off of a bookshelf so that I could move it enough to rewire my office stereo and lamp, so that my stereo could move off of the filing cabinet (which got moved yesterday -- the stereo had to hang in the air for a full day. Physics is forgiving, but there are limits, and I was pushing them) and onto said bookshelf.
All of that was more work than it should have been because the stereo has a bad set of inputs and everytime I jiggled the wires coming from my computer I was rewarded with a 60-cycle hum at volume 11. What's worse, the stereo barely fits on the shelf and had to be positioned just so, and then the bookshelf moved back in place, which would jiggle the wires, so I would have to pull out the shelf to play with the wires, and carefully try and slide it all back in place, ad nauseum.
That rewiring ended up with us having a spare power bar, and
taxlady suggested that I put it in the kitchen and mount it on the wall to solve some wiring problems we had there. It was a good idea, but it involved finding drill bits, screws and anchors of the appropriate sizes, moving everything off the counter, mounting the bar, and then putting everything back with the new wiring.
Other than putting the last of the books back on the bookshelf, I've accomplished two major things that I had promised myself I would get out of the way this week. On the other hand, I got exactly ZERO done on the firewall and server that I'm supposed to be setting up, but that's mainly been because my strange bouts of sleepiness made me too muzzy-headed to do any constructive thinking.
Now I'm resting up because I promised that I would cook supper tonight, and I'm too tired to start right now.
So, for now I'm going to surf the net for half an hour or so and then go down and cook us a quick supper. After that I'll set the dishwasher going and come upstairs to finish reloading books onto shelves. That will then be IT for the day, since I expect I'm going to be helping out on some cleaning tomorrow. We've got
_sps_,
denizsarikaya, and
nancyrihakova, coming over for supper, so we need to clear junk off of enough chairs and tables so that it is actually possible for everyone to sit down and eat, and later possibly play some sort of board game.
So, I'm feeling like I've been productive today, and I'm looking forwards to having some good times with friends tomorrow. I guess I can't complain too much.
