I did get up at noonishish as I had planned, but got so caught up in things that I didn't post to tell anyone I was awake. Sorry.
Did some basic market research in the usual method: find some suggestive numbers and then pull all missing data out of your butt. So, the calculations have error bars you could drive a truck through, but it looks like the business idea could be viable, and depending on how well the idea works, would pull in somewhere between $70,000 and $700,000 a year. And that calculation is for the start-up conditions. Under the pessimistic conditions that give us $70,000, we get a projection of $350,000 a year at the end of 3 years of slow expansion, at which point we have to transition to a new business model. Under the optimistic regime that gives us $700,000 a year, 3 years expansion puts us at $3.5 million per year. I think I could manage to eke out a living on that kind of income.
(of course, that's gross revenue and after 3 years of growth, we'll undoubtedly have had to hire a dozen people to keep things running.)
I know, its all terribly vague and I haven't said anything about WHAT I want to do, but I think at this stage of the game, its just plain prudence. And speaking of ol' Prudy, I have a phone call to make...
