As I've probably made abundantly clear in the past, I'm a transhumanist, and therefor believe that some sort of technological singularity is pretty much inevitable this century.  Not everyone agrees with this point of view, naturally, but I've yet to see any more cogent arguments against it possibility than 'Ick! I wouldn't like that!'. This doesn't exactly constitute the telling disproof that many would like to believe it is.

Anyway, here's an interesting 2-page who's who PDF about authors on Singularity topics, both for, and against.

You said "some sort of". That's OK. An actual singularity I just don't believe. Even black holes probably won't turn out to be singularities once quantum mechanics is factored in.
