This has actually been the law (seldom used though) in Toronto since the 90s. Somewhere both I and [personal profile] helenkacan have photos of me standing topless at the corner of Bloor and Yonge during a Gay Pride parade.

Hee! I remember. You wanted it so badly to be at Yonge/Bloor. But was it with your camera? 'Cuz. you know, the brains cells, etc., etc. Although I'm sure my copy is somewhere in the still unpacked boxes.

H.

Um, Vancouver as a bastion of Victorian hypocrisy (my rewording)?

Me believes they meant to say Victoria! Because, um, Wreck Beach and other examples of laid-back attitudes (buzzed snowboarders, etc.) are anything but Victorian.

In all of Ontario, actually.

Not sure what the law says in Toronto, but while the article does say "public pools" what they really mean is "pools where you go and pay a fee to enter"

As far as I know it's always (or as close to always as make no difference) been allowed to walk around naked/topless (hmmm, not sure about naked, actually) at beaches, parks and so on.

On a personal note I can say that when I was a kid (15-17) the swim team I was on went on yearly summer camps where the girls swam topless. Much to everyone's surprised it turned out that us hormone filled boys actually spent more time talking about it before the first trip than we ever did spent on watching the breasts. Not because they weren't good looking girls, but simply because we'd seen everything that was to see in about ten seconds and after that it was just training as normal.

At this point, no idea. It wasn't an important detail so it's fallen out of my head.

I was very startled to see that article. I remember clearly that they were busy changing the laws before I went to Denmark in 1969 and while I was there until 1974. When I left, you could be nude anywhere, but if someone was offended by a nude man with an erection, he had to get dressed.
