The last few days.
The last few days have been a bit of a blur for me since my stress was causing me to not sleep, which caused me to be a somnambulant zombie for several days. I actually got 8 hours sleep last night, so I felt somewhat better today. I hope to get at least that much tonight as well. In fact, once I've written this I'll probably fill the dishwasher so my daily chores are done, and then head off to bed.
Anyway, I wanted to mention that I had fun playing at
joenotcharles' place with
miseri and (of course)
taxlady on Sunday. He had a new game called Mystery of the Abbey which is a clue-like game but is much harder. Its clear that to play properly, you need to not only keep track of what questions you've asked and what the answers are, but what everyone else has done as well as how many cards they've traded with others, and when. Since the first game took 3 of the 4 hours we had for playing, Joe suggested we play The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen by Hogshead Publishing. Its a game in which people have to make up 5-minute stories to explain seemingly impossible (or very odd) situations like "What, are you telling us that YOU were the Pharoh Ramses? How is this possible?" Its a game which I must admit to being somewhat reluctant to play at first, because I was brain dead and I've always found that kind of impromptu story telling to be hard, but it turned out to be a lot of fun, and is something I would definitely be willing to play again. One thing I did notice about both of those games though, is that
_sps_ could probably mop the floor with me in both of them, since I know he has black belts in both logical deduction and extemporanous speaking.
Anyway, while I was at
joenotcharles' place, it turned out that I should have brought a snake, since I had promised to lend mine to
mouseme and they know each other. I, however, had not known that. I had thought that I would have to make arrangements with
miseri since he was the only mutual friend I knew of. Had I known he was going to be at the game, I would have brought the snake for sure. Oh well.
Sunday night I was, of course, unable to sleep because of the big Monday morning meeting to sort out details on my job offer and see if there were any show stoppers. Luckily, things went smoothly on Monday and we shook on the idea of me having a new job.
If I had thought I was a zombie on Sunday, I was much worse now. After the meeting I had a 2-hour nap and then, inexplicably, spent several hours debugging mail and anti-spam scripts since that was the only thing my brain seemed capable of thinking about.
taxlady made us a nice simple supper and I would normally have gone straight to bed afterwards, but it was the monthly LJ meetup and I wanted to go, even if I was an uberzombie.
The meetup went well enough, as
taxlady wrote here. I had hoped to finally get to meet
maytricks, but she didn't show :-(. Maybe its just as well, as I don't suspect that I made a great impression as a member of the walking stumbling undead.
Then we gave
azrhey a lift home and headed back to our own abode where I quickly faceplanted on my bed and got some shuteye.
This morning I was feeling semi-human again, which was good because it turned out to be a busy day. It started with grabbing breakfast and heading out to TerraScale my new employers to pick up the work contract and perhaps get shown around. It turned out that the out-of-town business folks (who I had understood would be there part of the day) were still there and everyone was in meetings, so I just grabbed my papers and split. (I still haven't looked at them yet though. I'll have to do that tomorrow.)
Then I saw that I was now running early for my supper date with
_sps_ and so decided to walk to
joenotcharles' place to drop off the snake, instead of doing the Metro thing as I had originally planned. It took me something like 75 minutes to walk to his place from Old Montreal, which shows how out-of-shape I've gotten, so I was now running behind schedule by the time I got there.
I then grabbed the 24 bus to McGill and met up with
_sps_ just a few minutes after I said I would. We headed over to Angela's for pizza because I figured I deserved to treat myself after all the stress of the last few days.
After the yummy food, we spent the next few hours at Tim Horton's trying to get the math right on our idea for a money-making website I want to build. It was supposed to be up and running by this time LAST year, but it turns out that a badly depressed Sti doesn't get much done.
I also know that a Sti who's working all day long also doesn't get much done on side projects, so I may still be trying to finish the dang thing at this time NEXT year, but I'm hoping to do better than that.
Anyway, after my brain ground to a halt from fatigue, I came home, caught up on LJ and wrote all of the above.
And now you're up to date.
