Risks of Superintelligent AI

Eliezer Yudkowsky is a man that [livejournal.com profile] taxlady once described as having "a beautiful brain". While reading his latest work on the existential risks of producing superintelligent AI, I begin to understand what she meant.

Wha?

*blink* *blink*

Okay, so much for the theory of sleeping soundly if I went to bed really late.  I had planned to hit the sack by ten pm as I wanted to get up early. Instead it was past 2:00 am when I finally got to bed. I set my alarm for 10:00 am so that I would be up reasonably early and the jolt of getting up at 6:00 or 7:00 am on Sunday wouldn't be a big one.

Instead I got up to pee at 7:00 am and couldn't fall back asleep. So, I've only had about five hours sleep and really should get some more but my body is refusing. *sigh*

Maybe I'll try a nap this afternoon, and maybe not. I don't want to be too sleepy at [livejournal.com profile] hendrikboom's birthday celebration tonight, but I'm not sure if my treacherous body is better treated by giving it lots of caffeine, or by trying to catch some extra zzzz's during the day. Both strategies have worked in the past, and both have failed.
